Lusk Creek Wilderness Area Temporarily Closed

 Release Date: Apr 28, 2011

 Contact(s): Tim Pohlman, 618 658 2111

Harrisburg, IL, April 28, 2011 – The Lusk Creek Wilderness (LCW) Area, located on the Shawnee National Forest, is temporarily closed to equestrian use. Over a period of several days, excessive heavy rainfall has resulted in the closure of the LCW to equestrian use. Heavy rainwater run-off has caused deep ruts in the trail tread and extremely muddy conditions. It will take a period of time to dry. Although the next few days are expected to be clear, the majority of the weekend predicts more rain. This short term closure will ensure user safety and resource protection. A reassessment of trail conditions will be conducted on Monday, May 2, 2011. Based on trail conditions, the District Ranger will decide the status of the closure. For information on the status of trails please call the Trail Hotline at (618) 658-1312. Lusk creek wilderness Temp Closed Link
